Bereaved Parents Month 2024: Why We Need One

There are so many competing causes it’s a wonder anyone can keep up with them.

But when one or more of them become near and dear to your heart, it’s easy.

July is Bereaved Parents Month. A designation I knew nothing about until several years into my own journey as a bereaved parent.

And while I’m unsure about the necessity for declarations like National Trivia Day or National Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day I am absolutely convinced of the need for Bereaved Parents Month.

This is a record of my grief journey and a look into the life I didn't choose. 1. Melanie – I so appreciate your talent for writing and sharing your loss of Dominic. You have such an authentic way of expressing your feelings and life from your perspective. I am not a bereaved parent but have a good friend who is and turned me on to your emails. I wanted to better understand her journey so she said you were one of her favorite grief writers and I should read your work. I’ve been reading off and on for the past few years and have become more educated and compassionate. I have great loss in my life through another means and occasionally your wisdom crosses over and touches me personally. I have also shared your writings with other friends who continue to lose children knowing how much you have helped my friend. With this being “Bereaved Parent’s Month” I wanted to ask if I could share today’s email on LinkedIn. Frequently, we honor our fallen soldiers so we never forget, so I think it’s just as appropriate to honor parents who have lost children in other ways. Your transparent explanation of this is worthy of sharing with all who are drawn to LinkedIn and may need to hear “me too”. I respect your opinion on my request and look forward to hearing back. Thank you,Lisa

I’m sorry I didn’t see this sooner. I’ve got my grandsons this week and haven’t been able to keep up with comments lately.

      Thank you for asking❤️
